Late Summer

Late Summer

The light outside is already different. The low-country air is still heavy, but softer somehow. The busy sounds of high summer subside and afternoon porch time becomes a little more peaceful. The drippy moss sways and the oaks sing their song as the magnolia wind picks up. Catching a ride on that wind is the smell of brisket on a neighbor's smoker and my mind settles back to being a kid in the 80s. Riding my bike through the neighborhood... knowing I have to be back before dinner. No cell phones. No social media. Just the freedom of flight, my best friends, and those pit stops at a climbing tree. Those days have beckoned me lately... and it's becoming an art form relearning how to actually relax, let go, and just have some fun. Here's to you guys wherever you are in life's journey, that you take a step back and remember to live lighter, breathe in some fresh air, and simply, smile.
